Nils Martin Elvik 1940's Norwegian Silver Gilt Enamel Three Lilac Leaf Necklace

Nils Martin Elvik 1940's Norwegian Silver Gilt Enamel Three Lilac Maple Necklace featuring three integral enamel Maple or Ivy leaf pendants in a beautiful and unusual lilac tone. It is marked 'EDELMETALL' with '925 S' beneath followed by the makers mark of Nils Martin Elvik, which is a diamond lozenge cartouche stamped 'E' in the centre, and below this 'STERLING' with 'NORWAY' beneath. Edelmetall translates to 'precious metal'. This lovely necklace has a spring ring clasp and it is 41cm long. The size of the maple leaves is 2.3cm high and 2.2cm wide and it weighs 9g. Nils Martin Elvik (b. 1887 d. 1948) was trained by Aksel Holmsen in Oslo in filigree work and took the journeyman test in 1907. He bought a craft certificate in 1910 and started a workshop the following year with the company name Nils M. Elvik Sølv- og Enaljefabrik. [p] He based his production mainly on enamel goods. In 1938, Nils Martin Elvik and his son Edvard Berge Gullvarefabrikken AS started. [p] Elvik & Co AS was started in 1941 by Edvard Berge Elvik and was a sales company for the other two production companies. The silver and enamel factory was later closed down. From the very beginning, the company was located at Storgaten 20, but moved to Vindern, Oslo in 1986 and later to Bryn, Oslo.
