Grosse 1960 Made In Germany Four Strand Mesh and Chain Necklace with Extender featuring a four strand crossover necklace comprising three gold plated chains and one wider glistening mesh style strand. The construction detail is lovely and visible on the back. It measures 38.5cm long with a 5.5cm extender, which is finished with the signed Grosse tear-shaped hangtag (photographs showing the minimum and maximum lengths). The hangtag cartouche is signed 'G' (with crown above) over the 'Grosse' mark with '19©60' beneath - it is also signed 'MADE IN' and 'GERMANY' on the left and right curves of the cartouche respectively. A beautiful piece with wear on close inspection commensurate with age and reflected in the price. A lovely wearable piece.
Grossé was founded in 1907 by Mr Heinrich Henkel and Mr Florentin Grossé, also referred to as Henkel and Grossé and during the 1930's worked with design houses such as Lanvin and Schiaparelli in Paris as well as with Harrods in London and Saks in New York. Since 1955 Henkel?& Grossé worked together with Christian Dior and for fifty years held a license to produce and distribute Dior jewellery worldwide.
Henkel?&?Grossé carried on producing their own jewellery lines, For example, the line Grossé Bijoux, which was expanded in the 1960s to include the collections Grossé Sterling and Gold. In 2005 the family withdrew from the business and the firm became part of the Dior group.
