Butler & Wilson Early Clear Crystal Swallow Brooch, an early piece featuring clear, claw-set round and marquise (navette) crystals. It measures 10cm long and 5.7cm at its widest point, weighing 22.6g. The design includes a flat structure with a larger clear marquise or navette crystal body, four-row curved wings, and a five-wire tail with marquise or navettes, plus round black crystal eyes. It has a short pin with a rollover clasp and is signed 'BUTLER & WILSON' in full on a round cartouche on the reverse. Photographer John Swannell, active in 1980s fashion with Vogue, shot a version of Butler & Wilson's swallow brooch from that era, later featured in their anniversary book (see side by side photo). A lovely statement brooch rarely seen.
